How to watch MeTV without cable

Published

MeTV is free with a TV antenna in much of the US. This guide shows you how to find your local MeTV station and get it on your TV. If no signal reaches you, it compares the streaming services that carry it.

Last checked: October 31, 2026. Station listings are from October 4, 2026. Prices change often, so each service in the streaming table links to its own page.

The short answer

Free with an antenna. We list 176 local stations that broadcast MeTV, in 46 states and Washington, DC. MeTV often sits on a subchannel, such as 9.2, so look for a decimal number after you scan.

No signal? Stream it. Frndly TV is the cheapest way at $8.99 a month, or $6.99 a month if you pay for a year. Sling (from $19.99) and Philo ($25) carry it too.

Not on YouTube TV or Hulu + Live TV. Neither appears on MeTV's own list of places to watch.

Which option fits you

Your situation Best move
The FCC's reception map shows a strong or moderate signal for your MeTV station (see the checks below) Try an antenna first. No monthly bill if it works.
You already pay for YouTube TV or Hulu + Live TV Keep it and add an antenna for MeTV, if you get the signal.
No signal, and you mostly want classic TV Frndly TV Basic, the cheapest stream.
No signal, and you want to record Svengoolie Sling Select or Philo. Both include a DVR on their cheapest MeTV plan.
You want MeTV+ and MeTV Toons too Philo, which has all three on its $25 plan.
You already have DIRECTV Channel 77 HD, on Entertainment and higher packages.

Stream MeTV without an antenna

MeTV's own where-to-watch list names five streaming services: DIRECTV STREAM, Frndly TV, Philo, Fubo and Sling. All of them charge a monthly fee.

YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV aren't on the list.

Service Price with MeTV Cloud DVR
Frndly TV $8.99 a month, or about $6.99 a month paid yearly Classic and Premium plans only
Sling From $19.99 a month 50 hours
Philo $25 a month Unlimited, kept a year
DIRECTV $42.99 a month for the genre pack Unlimited
  • Frndly TV: MeTV is on every plan. Basic costs $8.99 a month or $83.88 a year. The DVR comes with Classic ($10.99) and Premium ($12.99), which keep recordings 3 or 9 months. The 72-hour replay skips MeTV. 7-day free trial.
  • Sling: MeTV is on Select, Orange, Blue and Orange & Blue. Select starts at $19.99 a month, Orange or Blue at $45.99. Sling added MeTV in August 2025.
  • Philo: MeTV is on Essential ($25 a month) and Bundle+. Philo also has MeTV+ and MeTV Toons. 7-day free trial.
  • DIRECTV: MeTV is on Entertainment, Choice, Ultimate and Premier, or the MyEntertainment genre pack at $42.99 a month ($34.99 for the first 2 months), plus taxes and fees. It's channel 77 HD. The genre pack has a 5-day free trial.
  • Fubo also carries MeTV, MeTV+ and MeTV Toons on its Pro and Elite plans. Check Fubo's site for the current price.

Do you get MeTV over the air?

Three quick checks give you a good idea before you buy anything.

  1. Find your station in our list. The station list near the end of this guide shows every MeTV station we've confirmed, state by state, under the city each one is licensed to. Note the call sign and band for the one nearest you.
  2. Confirm it with MeTV's ZIP lookup. MeTV's where-to-watch page shows the local station for your ZIP code, plus cable and satellite numbers near you.
  3. Check your signal on the FCC's map. Enter your address in the FCC's DTV Reception Maps, then find your station's call sign and read its rating.

The FCC's ratings assume an outdoor antenna 30 feet above the ground, and the FCC says indoor reception may vary a lot. Treat the rating as a starting point:

FCC rating for your MeTV station What to try
Strong An indoor antenna may work. If it doesn't, try one in the attic or outside
Moderate An attic or outdoor antenna is the safer bet
Weak An outdoor antenna, mounted as high as you can
No signal Streaming is the safer bet

Buildings, trees, hills and your own walls can all weaken indoor reception, the FCC notes. In a valley or a big apartment block, go one size up on the antenna.

The map is a prediction. A channel scan with your antenna is the real test.

Which antenna for which band

The band in our station list comes from the station's RF channel, the frequency it actually transmits on. That is often different from the number your TV shows, and it decides which antenna you need.

So go by the band, never by the number on your TV screen. A station that shows up as 9.2 can transmit on UHF, and one that shows up as 33.1 can transmit on VHF.

Band What works Watch out for
UHF (RF 14 to 36) An indoor antenna, flat ones included Walls, buildings and hills between you and the tower
High VHF (RF 7 to 13) An antenna that lists VHF on the box The FCC says many "HDTV antennas" work best on UHF
Low VHF (RF 2 to 6) A large antenna with long elements, often in the attic or outside These waves are about 11 to 18 feet long, so small antennas struggle

Old two-pole indoor antennas, the V-shaped kind that sit on top of a TV, are the reverse case. They handle VHF, and the FCC says they usually need a loop or bowtie added to pick up UHF.

Set up your antenna, step by step

  1. Pick the antenna for your station's band, using the table above.
  2. Place it high, near an outside wall. On the FCC map, click your station's call sign to see which way its tower is.
  3. Set the TV's input to "Antenna" or "Air," not "Cable." A TV set to Cable can scan and find nothing.
  4. Run a full channel scan from the TV's settings menu. Scan again every time you move the antenna, as the FCC advises.
  5. Look for the decimal channel, such as 9.2.

Scan found nothing? Try the reset on MeTV's own antenna tips page.

  1. Disconnect the antenna, so only the power cable is plugged into the TV.
  2. Rescan. The TV should report zero channels.
  3. Unplug the TV for about 30 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in, reconnect the antenna and scan again.

MeTV says the TV then acts as if it has moved to a new area and registers every channel it finds.

MeTV problems and fixes

MeTV disappeared from my TV

Rescan first. The FCC recommends scanning now and then anyway, because new channels can appear.

Still gone? The local station may have dropped MeTV, or MeTV may have moved to another station in your area. Check our station list and MeTV's ZIP lookup for a new home, then rescan.

If no station near you carries it anymore, streaming is the fallback.

My cable company doesn't carry MeTV

FCC must-carry rules only require a cable company to carry one stream from a local station, not its subchannels. MeTV often rides on a subchannel, so carrying it is the cable company's choice.

That also means that if your local station drops MeTV, your cable lineup can lose it too. MeTV's ZIP lookup shows which providers near you carry it now.

If yours doesn't, an antenna on the same TV gets MeTV for free.

MeTV looks blurry

A station's signal is shared between its main channel and its subchannels, and some stations send MeTV in standard definition (SD). MeTV's ZIP lookup sometimes marks a local signal HD or SD. New York's listing, for example, shows one MeTV signal in HD and another in SD.

If your area has both, tune to the HD one. If only SD is listed, the softness is in the broadcast, and a better antenna won't fix it.

A picture that breaks up or drops out is a different problem. That points to a weak signal, so the FCC suggests raising an indoor antenna or moving it nearer an outside wall, then rescanning.

MeTV on cable and satellite

On cable, MeTV's channel number changes from city to city. DIRECTV and DISH each have a national listing, though MeTV's ZIP lookup may show a local number for your area.

Provider MeTV channel
DIRECTV 77 HD, on Entertainment and higher packages
DISH 247 (national listing)
Spectrum Varies by city, such as 987 in Cleveland, 186 in Atlanta and 33 in New York City
Xfinity Varies by city, such as 2 in Houston and 15 in Seattle
  • Spectrum: our tracked lineups list MeTV in 33 of 62 Spectrum areas. See Spectrum's MeTV numbers by city.
  • Xfinity: our tracked lineups list a local MeTV station in 6 of 44 Xfinity areas.
  • DISH: MeTV's ZIP lookup may show a local DISH number instead of 247 (Chicago's page shows 23). See MeTV on DISH.

The Spectrum, Xfinity and DISH numbers come from the lineups we track, last checked between March 31 and April 14, 2026. An area missing from our records may still carry MeTV, and lineups change, so confirm yours in your provider's guide.

Can't find MeTV on DIRECTV 77? MeTV's ZIP lookup may list a local DIRECTV number too (New York's page shows 33).

How to record Svengoolie

Svengoolie airs on Saturday nights on most MeTV stations. Its start time can change, as it did for the October double features, so check MeTV's Svengoolie page for this week's time.

MeTV's Svengoolie page offers previews, not the full shows. If you can't watch live, record it.

How to record Cost Storage
Antenna DVR (a DVR box made for antennas) You buy the box Depends on the box; needs your MeTV signal
Sling Select From $19.99 a month 50 hours
Philo $25 a month Unlimited, kept a year
DIRECTV genre pack $42.99 a month Unlimited
Frndly TV Classic $10.99 a month Kept 3 months, but see the note below

Frndly says its DVR covers "nearly every" channel and doesn't say whether MeTV is one of them. Record a MeTV show during the free trial before you count on it.

Don't rely on Frndly's 72-hour replay. Its help pages list MeTV among the channels the replay excludes.

MeTV, MeTV+ and MeTV Toons

  • MeTV: classic series such as M*A*S*H, Perry Mason and Gunsmoke.
  • MeTV+: more classic shows, such as Hawaii Five-O, Charlie's Angels and The Mod Squad.
  • MeTV Toons: classic cartoons, from Hollywood-era shorts to made-for-TV series.
Channel Free with an antenna Streams on
MeTV On 176 stations Frndly TV, Sling, Philo, DIRECTV, Fubo
MeTV+ On 9 stations Frndly TV, Philo, Fubo
MeTV Toons On 76 stations Frndly TV, Philo, Fubo, DIRECTV (channel 295, Choice and higher)

Our station list covers MeTV only. MeTV's ZIP lookup lists MeTV+ stations near you too.

These counts are the stations we've confirmed. Our listings name a few more that we haven't: 16 for MeTV, 3 for MeTV+ and 5 for MeTV Toons.

Common questions

Is MeTV free?

Yes, with an antenna, wherever a local station carries it and its signal reaches you. Streaming it costs money, and Frndly TV is the cheapest at $8.99 a month.

Can I stream MeTV free on Pluto TV, Tubi or The Roku Channel?

Not through any service MeTV lists. Every streaming service on MeTV's list charges a monthly fee, and Pluto TV, Tubi and The Roku Channel aren't on it.

The nearest thing to free is a trial. Frndly TV and Philo each offer 7 days, and DIRECTV's MyEntertainment pack offers 5.

If an app promises free live MeTV and isn't on MeTV's list, be careful with it.

Does Amazon Prime include MeTV?

Prime Video isn't on MeTV's list of places to watch, so don't expect MeTV with your Prime membership. On a Fire TV Stick, use the Frndly TV, Philo or Sling app, or plug an antenna into the TV.

Can I watch MeTV on Roku, Fire TV, a smart TV or my phone?

Yes, through Frndly TV, Philo or Sling. All three have apps for Roku, Fire TV, iPhone and Android, plus Samsung and Vizio smart TVs.

MeTV's list has no free MeTV channel on Roku. For free MeTV, plug an antenna into any TV with a built-in tuner.

Is there a free MeTV app?

Not for live TV. MeTV's App Store listing is about reading up on your favorite shows and doesn't promise a live stream. MeTV's where-to-watch page doesn't offer the app as a way to watch, either.

Is MeTV on YouTube TV or YouTube?

MeTV's own list doesn't include YouTube TV or Hulu + Live TV. MeTV does post Svengoolie previews on YouTube, but its list has no live stream there.

Should I keep YouTube TV and add an antenna, or switch to Philo?

If you get a MeTV signal, keep YouTube TV and add an antenna. You pay for the antenna once and lose nothing.

Switching to Philo only makes sense if its channel list covers what you watch now. Compare the two lineups before you cancel anything.

What channel is MeTV on?

It depends on where you live. Over the air, find your station in the list below. On DIRECTV, it's channel 77 HD, and MeTV's ZIP lookup may show a local number too. Cable numbers vary by city, so check the cable table or MeTV's ZIP lookup.

MeTV stations by state

Many local stations carry MeTV on a spare subchannel. That's why its number often looks like 9.2 instead of 9.

Each station is listed under the city the FCC licenses it to. That's sometimes a smaller town near the metro area it serves, so check the other cities in your state too.

Each row gives the channel number, the station's call sign and its band, such as "13.2 on WVTM-TV (High VHF)".

A few stations send MeTV from another station's transmitter. For those, the list names that transmitter after "via", as in "2.2 on WESH via WKCF". On the FCC map, look up that second call sign, because that's the signal your antenna picks up.
