CNBC is owned by Versant Media Group, the publicly-traded company that emerged from Comcast's January 2026 spinoff of its cable portfolio (which also included USA Network, MS NOW, Golf Channel, E!, Oxygen, and Syfy). The channel launched on April 17, 1989, as the Consumer News and Business Channel and expanded in 1991 through a merger with the rival Financial News Network.
CNBC operates a distinctive split schedule. During weekday trading hours, live U.S. and international markets coverage dominates, with morning programming anchored by Squawk Box (on since 1995) and evening shows including Mad Money with Jim Cramer (on since 2005). Outside trading hours and on weekends, the schedule shifts to business documentaries and reality programming such as American Greed and Shark Tank reruns.
